Tasting Notes: The 2005 Rosenthal Sparkling Shiraz is a follow up to our 2003 Gold Medal winning Sparkling Shiraz. It combines the talent and creativity of renowned local wine makers Diane Miller and Julie Smith. 2005 was an exceptional vintage for the Bridgetown/Manjimup area with most days being warm and sunny leading to ripe flavour-some fruit. The 2005 Rosenthal Sparkling Shiraz is an elegant wine exhibiting plum fruit, spicy oak and a smooth well balanced palate. It has a deep purple colour. On the palate it is full and rich with the bubbles creating a lingering after-taste.

2005 Richings Shiraz

Tasting notes: Following from the success of our 2003 and 2004 vintages, we are proud to present our 2005 Richings Shiraz. The colour is deep carmine with rich varietal aromas of dark spice, plums and ripe mulberries. On the palate the wine has rich, ripe fruit balanced with fine tannins. It is complex, has great length and persistence of flavour.

2005 Cabernet Shiraz

Tasting notes: This wine is predominantly Cabernet Savingnon gently blended with Cabernet Franc and Shiraz. It exhibits elegant aromas of blackcurrant mingled with French Oak. This, in conjunction with its deep red colour are the first hints of the quality of this wine. The wine has silky tannins and ripe fruit that combine to provide a rich and very smooth finish.

2004 The Cabernets

Tasting notes: This blend of Springfield Park Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is a clean, fruit driven aromatic wine. It has a generous and lush array of complex red and black fruit flavours, seamlessly balanced with finely integrated quality oak. “The Cabernets” is a medium-bodied wine with attractive savoury tannins and an uncomplicated finish.

2004 Richings Shiraz

Tasting notes: Shiraz has traditionally been the signature wine for Springfield Park and the 2004 Richings Shiraz is no exception. It presents an infusion of soft, toasted oak through plum and spice fruit, featuring a weighted palate with abundant sweet blackberry fruit. Savoury, rippling tannins are complemented by well managed oak. A finely structured and balanced Shiraz.

Rosenthal’s Springfield Park Vineyard is noted for its reputation for producing premium limited release red wines. The 2003 vintage was no exception, and a small amount of the Shiraz from this vintage was reserved for the 2003 Rosenthal Sparkling Shiraz.

Our winemaking goal with the Rosenthal 2003 Sparkling Shiraz was to produce a sparkling Shiraz with all the hallmarks of the world’s best sparkling wines together with the unique characteristics of premium Blackwood Valley Shiraz.

Traditional open fermentation was applied and the wine was then aged for 10 months in a combination of French and American Oak barrels, before undergoing secondary fermentation in the bottle. The wine then underwent 12 months bottle ageing under controlled cellar conditions, before been disgorged.

It is a complex wine that pleases the nose with wonderful aromas of plum black cherry and hint of vanilla from the time in oak. The time spent ageing before release has created a wine with a wonderful mouth feel that is full of wonderful brioche and fruit flavours which are complemented by the gentle beading giving the wine a real mouthful of complexity and flavours. Further bottle ageing will add to the complexity of this wine.

2003 Richings Shiraz

Tasting notes: A simply stunning premium Shiraz. The wine exhibits a deep, rich colour, showing an elegant nose of plum and black cherry with a subtle hint of exotic spice. Eighteen months exposure in French and American Oak has added the more complex dimensions of vanilla and confectionary to the wine, without overpowering its wonderful fruit characteristics. The 2003 Richings Shiraz reveals soft tannins, good length, and a superior finish.

Drink now, or enjoy the added complexity of bottle ageing as, with careful cellaring, the wine will develop further over the next 3 to 7 years.
